At our church we put a very high value on the "one another" passages of Scripture. There are no spectators in God’s design for the church. We are to minister to one another. Many passages in the New Testament point to this idea. One of them is Colossians 3:16 which says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom.” Why does this passage say we ought to know God’s Word? For our own edification? No, we are supposed to dive deep into God’s Word for the sake of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

For this reason, we believe it is important for us as a church to be on the “same page” of Scripture. When we are on the same page we’ll be better equipped to minister to one another, our spouses, and our children. To do this we are starting a whole church reading plan focused on the text being taught each Sunday.

The reading plan will encourage us to read Scripture in two ways: 1) Study It and 2) Consume It.

The Study It passages are the passage we are preaching and studying the coming Sunday. As we study it, we’ll ask the same four questions each week: 1) What does this passage tell me about God? 2) What does this passage tell me about people? 3) How does this passage point me to the cross? 4) How should I respond?

That final question--how should I respond--is essential. We should be doers of the word and not just hearers only. Do I need to repent of something? Obey? How can I apply it to my personal holiness? To my marriage and family? To my church? To my neighbors and in my ministry? We want to encourage and help one another with these types of issues as we dig down deep into God’s truth.

We’ll also Consume It by reading 12 chapters each week just to cover a lot of material. Many people have never read the whole Bible, and the Consume It reading plan will help us all become more familiar with the whole of Scripture. If you already have a reading plan that you prefer, you can stick with that instead of following the Consume It part of the reading plan.

You can access the reading plan at iAteThem.com. The links on the website will open the YouVersion Bible app. We have also incorporated the Bible Project videos into the reading as well.

Let’s let the word of Christ dwell in us richly so we may teach and admonish one another with all wisdom! (Col 3:16)
